This Richmond Road Runners Club Eastern Regional Championship Race is run on the streets of Richmond. The race is designed for runners. The course is a single loop through Richmond streets. It starts and ends at the State Capitol (9th and Grace Streets). The course goes west on Grace Street, running through Byrd Park and passes Hollywood cemetery. The course continues through Oregon Hill with a great view of the James River and then up Second Street to Franklin Street finishing on Bank Street at the foot of the Capitol. The race features disposable chip timing and awards three deep in five year age groups.  The course is USATF certified. The race has been designated the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Eastern Regional 10 Mile Championship Race.

Special Olympics Virginia Mile

Special Olympics Virginia Mile LogoSpecial Olympics athletes are invited to participate in a FREE 1 mile race. All participants will receive a t-shirt and runner’s medal. Awards will be presented to top male and female adult and young adult (<18) athletes. This race is limited to children and adults with intellectual disabilities. All participants must be registered to run. The race begins at 7:45 am at the Capitol.

Chick-fil-A® Mile

Chicl-fil-a 1M LogoThis kid’s 1 mile race will be run on a USA Track and Field certified course and will utilize disposable chip timing. All children must be registered to run. The race will be run in waves. The first wave for children ages 10 - 12 will start at 8 am. The second wave for 8 - 9 year olds will start at 8:04 and the third wave for 6 - 8 year olds will start at 8:08. Adults may run with the children. All registered children will receive a t-shirt and a medal. Awards to the top male and female in each age group. The cost of the kid’s race is $10.00. The kid’s race is limited to 1200. This event benefits the Special Olympics Virginia - Area 6.

School Spirit Contest

Enter the school spirit contest and win! The Richmond area metro school with the most finishers in the 1 Mile Kid’s race will win a $500 gift certificate for supplies at Staples. Each child in the winning school will also receive a coupon for a fruit cup at Chick-fil-A.

Register Online

You can register online and mail in a check! Registration will be open at packet pick-up prior to race day if space allows. Race shirts are not guaranteed on registrations at packet pick-up.

Entry Fees
The regular entry fee for the 10 M race is $45. Richmond Road Runners Club members who register online before September 1 will receive a $10 discount. The price after September 1st is $45 for all. Register early and save money!  The cost of the Chick-fil-A kid’s mile race is $10. The Special Olympics Virginia Mile race is free.

Entries are Non-Refundable
Entry fees are non-refundable and entries are nontransferable, no exceptions. All online and mail registrants (before September 27) who provide a valid email address will receive a confirmation email. Do not mail entry forms after September 22. After September 22, sign-up online through 11:59 p.m. on September 27. The 10 mile race is limited to the first 1,500 registrants. Registration will close when capacity is reached. The Richmond Road Runners Club is not responsible for lost or misdirected race applications.

You must be able to complete the 10 miles by 9:30 a. m. (Two hours).

Diamond Springs Water  and Gatorade will be available at water stops at approximately miles 2, 4, 6 and 8 miles. Post-race refreshments will be available at the Capitol.

Race Timing & Results
The race will be computer chip timed by Kale Running using new disposable timing chips. No need to take them off and return them. Results will be posted after completion of the race at the Capitol awards ceremony and online at www.rrrc.org.

Stick around after the race for a massage. Massage therapists will be providing free massages to weary runners on the Capitol Square.

Race Day Bag Check
Bag check will be available at the packet pick-up area on race day. Clearly mark your bag with your name and race number.

The Course

The 10 Mile course starts and ends at the Capitol and is USATF certified. Runners will start heading West on Grace Street, turn left on Meadow (Mile 2) and run through Byrd Park around its three lakes. They will exit the park near Maymont (Mile 6) and run by famous Hollywood Cemetery on Colorado St.  They will turn right on Idelwood Street (Mile 8) and then right on Laurel Street through Oregon Hill. Left onto 2nd Street and under the Lee Bridge going up to Franklin Street. Right on Franklin Street (Mile 9.5) and right on 9th Street finish on Bank Street. The race will be run on open city streets. Traffic will be controlled. Water stops will be at about every two miles. Post-race refreshments will be available at the Capitol.

10 Mile race course

The 1 Mile course starts and ends at the Capitol and is USATF certified. Runners will start heading West on Grace Street, turn left on Third Street and then left on Franklin Street and right on 9th Street finish on Bank Street. The race will be run on open city streets. Traffic will be controlled.

Packet Pick-up

Packet Pick-up will be at various Chick-fil-A’s throughout Richmond from Monday through Thursday from 1 - 6 and on Friday at the Road Runner Running Store from 12 - 5:30. Packet pick-up on race day will start at 6:00 am. There will be no registration on race day.

Awards

RRCA LogoCapitol 10M - All pre-registrants (before September 1) will receive a technical t-shirt. All finishers will receive a race medal. The top male and female finishers will receive a Garmin watch . Second place will receive running shoes and third place a $50 gift certificate complements of the Roadrunner Running Store. First male and female masters will receive running shoes complements of the Roadrunner Running Store. Open, masters, and grand masters male and female champions will receive Road Runners Club of America plaques and $50 Sports Authority gift certificates. Awards will be three deep in five-year age groups :

Race Charity

Special Olympics LogoSpecial Olympics Virginia (SOVA) – Area 6 has been chosen as our race charity. SOVA – Area 6 provides FREE year - round athletic programs to enrich the lives, and improve the confidence of children and adults with intellectual disabilities in Amelia, Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, and Powhatan counties. Through sports training and competition, SOVA athletes develop physically, socially, and psychologically. SOVA – Area 6 serves 750 athletes in eight central Virginia counties. Your support of SOVA – Area 6, enables these athletes to participate in such sports as basketball, skiing, swimming, track& field and bowling to name a few.

Second Street Festival

2nd Street festival LogoAfter the race attend the Second Street Festival. Just a few blocks away and starting at 12, the festival is free and will have entertainment and food. 2nd Street is lined with events for the entire family. Two stages of live music, great Virginia cooking and a Richmond marketplace will all bring a world of wonder to visitors. And for the football fanatic who just can't accept missing any games, there will be a Comcast Football Tent, offering a place to watch all of the college and pro games with all the other football fanatics on hand at the Second Street Festival.
